Rehbar mera paras baitha baani tan kaswatti ey;
Satgur mera gyan devta gyan di baani hatti ey. Uchchi suchchi nirmal baani bhagtan di eh khatti ey; Is sil da hai ras anokha oh jane jis chatty ey. Charan dhoorh nun samajh khajana baki sabh kujh matti ey; Kahe avtar jad satgur mildai akkhon khuldi patti ey. |

The True Master is the alchemy, while the holy scriptures are mere touch-stone;
The True Master is the dispenser of divine knowledge, while holy scriptures are only the shop (the store-house). The lofty and pure are the words of wisdom enshrined in the holy scriptures, and this is the precious wealth earned by devotees of God; The taste of this divine slab of stone is wonderful, and is known only to the one who licks it. O' man, you should value the dust of the feet of the True Master as precious treasure, everything else is mere ash; Avtar says, when one finds the True Master, the bandage of ignorance gets removed from the eyes. |
Meaning
Only the True Master helps us walk on the path of divine Truth. The True Master is the alchemy, while the Holy Scriptures are mere touchstone, criteria for knowing Him. The True Master gives the divine knowledge, while Holy Scriptures are only the shop (the store-house). The lofty and pure are the words of wisdom written in the Holy Scriptures, and this is the precious wealth earned by devotees of God. The taste of this divine slab of stone is wonderful, and is known only to the one who licks it.
